Grateful for the Roller Coasters of Life
Asking someone if they like amusement parks is slightly different than asking if they like roller coasters. People who like amusement parks may not be able to handle the rides but just go to be amused and eat the food! That's not bad at all. I was actually one of those people myself when I was little because I was afraid of the lack of control I may have had on the rides. I looked at how my friends would get in line after line for their favorite rides. Some of them even looked nervous going on but that did not stop them from relinquishing all control in order to get their money's worth. I, on the other hand, would simply laugh with them all the way up to the entrance of the line and completely turn my back on them and patiently wait on them at the exit and ask them about their experiences.
More than ever, I now see that this is how some of us live our lives. We want to be in control of every aspect of our lives that we completely forget about the essential fact of simply enjoying life. We are faced with some challenging times only to follow the turn of the current of life and we lock into the joy that has been there the whole time. We can literally feel the ride of life slowly taking us up the hills as we continue to face days where it can be best described as feeling "some type of way" or "I don't know where I'm going but I know I am going somewhere". Then we feel like we have found some type of stride in our harness of accountability and accepting truths about ourselves.
Then our prayer lives push our faith up to have a kairos moment where time and eternity meet and we are off!! Life picks up, it's harvest time! Blessings coming from every direction and people that we don't know and did not expect starts to sow into our ministries and businesses. We see the benefits of our sacrifices and we are exceedingly happy. Then life happens and it takes a turn that we saw coming we did not anticipate how it would FEEL. Our heads hit the sides of our seats, we have headaches and try not to suffocate from how fast life is coming at us. Then another jerk of the ride pulls your body to the left...and another jerk pulls you to the right. Followed by a deep turn you did not see coming (only heard about) like your friends all leave you at one time and you feel so alone that you become depressed and all you want to do lay down and sleep. Not to only do your friends all leave at once but you lose your job because your car stops working, bank account bounces but you still have the heart to give something monetarily...but you can’t in this season. Life simply happens and it hits you hard so much so that if you don’t laugh about it, you will literally cry until your eyes are swollen shut.
Life picks up speed and everything is turned upside down. You find out that the rock of your family passes away, the love of your life walks out and you now are REALLY by yourself because everyone who said they "would be there when you called" will not answer the phone or respond to any other message you send. The tears and pain are real yet you hold on to the iron rail across your lap and the padded harness across your shoulders that's keeping you from losing your mind. You are grateful that you have not given up when you wanted to because you're strapped in. And all of a sudden, you're sitting straight up and things seem to be slowing down. You feel this peace that you held on to by the skin of your teeth suddenly engulf you and for a moment you get off of the ride of life and retreat to the presence of the Lord to give Him a recap and tell Him all about it.
The Lord tells you, "My Child I designed the tracks of that ride from the ground up, before I said, 'Let there be...'. My Son, Jesus, was in the seat that you were sitting in, as you followed His blueprint -- no matter how many times you thought you weren't, He always led you to Me. The harness you gripped every now and then in the beginning and later realized was the only thing you had was STILL ME by way of the Holy Spirit being your comforter." Do as the lady did at the well; tell everyone what the Lord has done in order to get others to enjoy the ride of life. It's not the fact that we need to be in control of every aspect of our life in order to enjoy life. Remember our thoughts are not His thoughts and our ways are not His ways, He knows the plans that He has for us, lastly...EYES HAVE NOT SEEN NOR EARS HEARD NEITHER HAS IT ENTERED INTO THE HEARTS OF MAN WHAT THE LORD HAS IN STORE FOR YOU.
The Rollercoaster of life can be a bit challenging but when the seasons changes and we get off of one roller coaster and on to the next we are able to fully convince someone else EXACTLY WHY they should get on and lift their hands and lose themselves in the dips, turns, high speeds and joy in knowing that it will not last always.
