Thankful for Opportunities!
Have you ever longed for something you felt like you had the ability to do but felt and knew it was not the right time just yet? You see the problem or the issue, you know the answer is within you but you cannot do too much because it is not time. It sounds frustrating but we face this type of thing quite often. How do you prepare for something you already know how to do? How do you remain patient and still work with grace so that others cannot see nor feel your anxiousness? Matter fact, how did Jesus do it? Knowing that He was sent down into the earth to save mankind from sin in order to be reunited with Our Father?
From my experience and even studying how Jesus did it, I have realized we have to do the following to really be anxious for nothing:
1. PRAY(Ps 16:11)
There were many times throughout the four gospels where it is recorded that Jesus went off and prayed alone. He had to get clear directions for the day, the hour and most of all settle Himself when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane! Get into the presence of the Lord. Tell Him ALL of your hearts desires!! The transaction comes when we quiet our minds so that we can see what HIS hearts desires are FOR US! I've heard so many times from older and experienced people say that We make the Lord laugh when we tell Him what we want to do. They say that because most of the time we say these things and nowhere in our little minds did we ever pause to think what He wants us to do -- let alone WHY He created us. When we pray we release our will to His knowing that He has created time as a vessel just as He created us and both will have the perfect dance in order for the Lord to get the glory...NOT us within our power.
2. PREPARE(John 13:1-17)
When Jesus washed the disciples' feet He was teaching and telling them what it is going to take in order for them the requirements of how to really live privately and publicly in His absence: IN HUMILITY. Although it may not be our time to be in the front doing what we feel we want to do that does not mean just sit and wait around for it to come to you. I ask people who say that they want to start a business question like what do they know about the area of interest or service within the city, how are you going to be different from your competitors, what businesses or organizations have you looked into to partner with? I NEVER do this to beat them up, discourage them or crush their dreams. It's to encourage them to prepare for every area that may be tested once they launch their business. When it comes to ministry it's the same thing. Do you see yourself preaching, teaching, singing to the nations? How's your prayer life? What have you studied for the regions that you feel like your being led to? Do you know the customs of that region? Do you know what offends the people in that region? To be under-prepared is to be not prepared. To be over-prepared is to expect the unexpected.
3. PRACTICE(Matt 5 -7)
Jesus loved to teach, His life was the ultimate textbook on how to really live out what you are proclaiming. I have learned NOT to be a "constipated genius". These are people who have so much knowledge about various areas that will help someone's very life but choose NOT to give it for whatever reason! I can tell you that I was knowledgeable about psychology, sociology, music business, music theory, church and business administration, biblical principles and nonprofit start-ups but choose NOT to give it to people out of FEAR OF REJECTION!! For years I allowed fear of rejection hinder almost every area of my life until I decided to settle in the skin that I was in. I being to share what I knew. I begin to practice teaching to the people around me in daily and causal conversations. It became a REAL and TRUE release for me to get some of that knowledge out. Once your time comes you cannot be overly prepared yet have NEVER practiced or expressed it around safe people who are wishing you much success and growth.
Before you know it...it's time to push, it's time to run, it's time to live out loud!! When the Lord has revealed the desiresof His heart towards you then He will continue to show you through various test, trial, situations as to WHY He has called you. It may not seem like it. It may not feel good. But keep going!! There is no time to give up. He's making you into the solidified answer that HE ALREADY knows you are, yet HE WANTS US TO SEE IT TOO! Jesus knew that He would be the ultimate mediator (1 Tim. 2:5) and perfect advocate for us since He lived among us (Heb 4:14). When His time (or opportunity) came to fulfill what he was created to do He did not stay a moment too late or a moment too long. When He hung on the cross for our sins. He made sure that when He said "It is finished" (John 19:30) that every child that belong to God their sins were atoned for.
This week: We are thankful for simply having an opportunity to pattern our lives after Jesus and an opportunity to live out our purpose and passion.
