Weeks of Gratitude
The team and I feel impressed on our hearts to challenge ourselves to complete a challenge this year. So today and every Thursday you can look forward to a post for:
“52 Weeks of Gratitude”
I have seen a lot of 52 Week Challenges but not too many are geared towards simply being grateful. If we can sit and honestly think about the many things that could have, should have and would have happen to us …..but GOD!!! Relationships that had the potential to kill our capacity to love….BUT GOD!! Job status changed ...BUT GOD saw fit that you never missed a meal. Pain from the past replayed like videotapes and looped dvds in life….BUT GOD surrounded you with his peace and understanding to speak to the mountains of your life. Rejection from people, closed doors, and life itself can seem like it has cashed in 30 pieces of silver for your head...BUT GOD reminds you that if you suffer with me then you will reign with Me (2 Tim 2:12).
It’s not hard to say thank you and has been scientifically proven to be beneficial to your life according to a Forbes article written by Amy Morin in 2014 (7 Scientifically Proven Benefits Of Gratitude That Will Motivate You To Give Thanks Year-Round). She mentions how, being thankful has its way of opening doors for new relationships. I know that many people can attest to that!! I have come to find out that when we show our gratitude to the Lord, He has this way of sending people into your life (rather it be for a moment or a lifetime) to SHOW YOU that He’s thankful for who you are to HIM. Can you think of an unexpected yet healthy friendship that seemed to drop out of nowhere? Do you remember what was going on in your life during that time?
Both of my grandmothers would tell me ALL THE TIME, “He may not come when you want Him but He’
ll be there right on time!!” Does that apply to that friendship you are thinking about?
Amy also says that gratitude helps you sleep better. While Jesus was on the boat to go to the other side of the sea in Mark 4:35-41, he went to sleep because he knew His Father was leading and guiding him. He knew that the storm was coming...YET HE STILL WENT TO SLEEP! This is what gratitude looks like. Gratitude leads to trust and trust leads to action when led. We should strive in our relationship with the Lord to do just that and more (John 14:12).
I encourage you to finish reading the other five points that Amy writes in the article. It is quite encouraging and eye-opening as well. I am sure that you can find a way to relate to what she expresses about the benefits of a pure thankful heart!
I would like to start off the 52 weeks of Gratitude by simply saying:
I am grateful for every one of the readers and subscribers of Journey With Me Blog!!
I have been trying to hype myself up to start a blog for the past 4 years now and I FINALLY DID IT!! I thought no one would read it because I felt like no one really knew me; therefore, I could get away with writing an inspirational Facebook status or fit a short prayer in 140 characters on Twitter. Although I felt the pull to start this, I allowed fear to get in the way. But on November 2nd, 2015 my life changed forever. Now there are regular readers in 35 countries and counting!! There are so many people who come to me reminding me of the words that I put other!! I am blessed to see others encouraged by my transparency on my journey to discovering who I am in the Kingdom of God. More importantly I am humbled to be apart of yours!
I am thankful that I put fear and pride aside to start this chapter of my life not to be proud or boastful but to allow people to not make the same mistakes I’ve made and learn from the great and small things I’ve experienced.
I know that this is only the beginning but I am grateful that you have decided to join me and the team as we walk into our destiny. One step at a time….
